Letter to the family:
Dear potential families,
Hello, my name is Sydnie, but everyone just calls me Syd 😀 In support of my application for the position of nanny, I would like to use this opportunity to convey my professional interests in the position, my qualifications, and my career ambitions. Fascinated with the various facets of the human mind, I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Montclair State University, United States. During the course of my studies at MSU, I received the opportunity to engage with and learn from academic luminaries, reputed neurologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, professors, and competitive peers who sharpened my critical thinking skills and domain expertise. I found myself intrigued to explore the intricacies of the brain architecture, why people behave the way they do, and how the brain controls our actions.
To delve deeper into psychology, I focused my attention on journals and research papers about various patients. Reading "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" by Dr. Oliver Sacks and "Phantoms in the Brain" by Dr. V.S. Ramachandran, I gained a deeper understanding of patients with neurological disorders. These books enabled me to go beyond the technical terminology and comprehend the patients' stories with emotions, feelings, and empathy. All in all, my bachelor's studies allowed me to understand the complexities of human emotions and how to solve conflicts between individuals on a regular basis. I have applied my studies by becoming an au pair for a year and a half in Frankfurt.
In doing this, I was able to tackle childcare with patience, humility, and an increased understanding that was only afforded to me through my studies. I provided emotional and physical assistance to a group of 2 children as per their individualized needs, conducted fun and mentally stimulating activities for the children, introduced them to and taught them English, provided a safe and nurturing environment for the children, and I managed the household chores as well. I can work with almost any age and any number of children.
Prior to working as an au pair, in the last six years, I worked with my mom at a summer camp teaching and working with kids ages four to twelve. I also worked as a sort of volunteer teacher's assistant for several years alongside my mom, helping her with her kindergarten and first grade classes.
Additionally, I used to help with the care of my grandfather, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and was unable to care for himself. So, I am aware of the responsibilities that can be attributed to taking care of someone with special needs. I also have a love of animals, as I have my own and do not mind them within the home. As someone who grew up with ten pets within their home, I must say that I have plenty of experience. That being said, if your home has animals, then I can definitely care for them since my home has always had animals as well.
I must admit, however, that my German is rather limited at A2 level, but I am actively studying the language to better communicate. I am organized, independent, adaptable, flexible with tasks and hours/days, am always looking forward to learning something new, friendly, open-minded, and a hard worker. As someone who prides themselves with these qualities, I believe I would be the perfect fit for any and all jobs associated with being a nanny. Furthermore, having worked and lived in different countries, I learned to collaborate with people from different cultural backgrounds. Thus, I will build upon this experience to foster a positive environment for both your children and you while working.
During my time as an au pair, teacher's assistant, and camp counselor, I discovered my love for working with children. They have enriched my life in so many ways. The children that I previously worked with have taught me valuable lessons and have helped turn me into the person that I am today. I would be happy to continue my love for working with children and bring this sentiment to your home as well. Finally, I am confident that I would be a valuable addition to your family and significantly contribute to the household through my diligence and innovativeness. For further information, please check out my account bio and feel free to contact me for more information. References can also be provided upon request. I look forward to hearing from you 😀
Kind Regards,
